Dermatologist-led care
Vitiligo
Vitiligo causes areas of skin to lose pigment. Not every pale patch is vitiligo; fungal conditions and other causes can look similar, so an examination is useful before starting treatment.
At CUTIS in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Dr Mahendra Sonune plans care after a clinical evaluation. This page is general information, not an individual diagnosis or prescription.
When to seek an assessment
Patients may notice new white patches, spreading areas, changes around the lips or hands, or white hair within a patch. The appearance may also have an emotional impact worth discussing openly.
Assessment is particularly helpful when a patch is changing or the diagnosis is uncertain.
How we approach the consultation
Dr Sonune reviews when the patches began, their distribution, change over time, previous treatment and relevant personal or family history. Examination helps distinguish vitiligo from other causes of light patches.
Associated concerns are reviewed when clinically indicated; testing is guided by findings rather than automatically ordered for everyone.
Care options to discuss
Recommendations depend on the diagnosis, medical history and suitability. Depending on the findings, the discussion may include:
- Skin protection and a discussion of whether treatment is wanted are part of care.
- Depending on extent and activity, prescription topical therapy may be considered.
- Light-based treatment or referral can be discussed where appropriate; availability and suitability are assessed during the visit.
Expectations and follow-up
Response varies by site and individual, and repigmentation is not guaranteed. Follow-up helps track new patches, treatment response, sun sensitivity and how the condition affects daily life.
