Dermatologist-led care
Hair loss & alopecia
CIDCO N-2 · Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad)
Hair loss is a symptom with several possible causes. Gradual thinning, sudden shedding and round patches of hair loss do not necessarily need the same treatment.
At CUTIS in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Dr Mahendra Sonune plans care after a clinical evaluation. This page is general information, not an individual diagnosis or prescription.
When to seek an assessment
A visit is useful when shedding is persistent, a parting is widening, the hairline changes, patches appear or there is itching, scaling or discomfort on the scalp.
Medical history, recent illness, medicines, hair practices and family patterns may help explain what is happening.
How we approach the consultation
The consultation examines the scalp and distribution of loss. The doctor may consider whether this is patterned hair loss, temporary shedding, alopecia areata, a scalp condition or another cause. Tests are suggested only if the findings make them relevant.
Some forms can involve inflammation or scarring of the scalp, so early assessment matters if there is pain, redness or a rapidly changing patch.
Care options to discuss
Recommendations depend on the diagnosis, medical history and suitability. Depending on the findings, the discussion may include:
- Cause-specific scalp care and medical treatment may be discussed after diagnosis.
- For patterned hair loss, suitable longer-term treatments and their maintenance requirements can be reviewed.
- Patchy or inflammatory loss may need a different plan or further investigation; a procedure is not assumed to be the answer.
Expectations and follow-up
Hair growth cycles are slow, so progress is assessed over months rather than days. Follow-up helps evaluate shedding, photographs or examination findings, treatment tolerance and whether the diagnosis needs reconsideration.
BEFORE YOUR VISIT
Questions about hair loss
Will I need blood tests for hair loss?
Not everyone needs tests. The history and scalp examination guide whether blood tests or other investigations would help identify the cause.
Does every patient need a procedure?
No. Care depends on the diagnosis. Some patients need medical treatment or management of an underlying cause; a procedure is considered only when appropriate.
How soon can I expect improvement?
Hair changes take time. Treatment often needs several months before its effect can be judged. The expected timeline depends on the cause, and some conditions need ongoing treatment.
Is sudden shedding the same as hereditary thinning?
They are different patterns and may sometimes occur together. Tell the dermatologist when the change began and about recent illness, medicines or other changes in health.
How should I prepare for my visit?
Bring previous prescriptions, relevant test reports and older photographs that show the change. The consultation fee is ₹500, with no additional registration charge. Reception confirms your OPD number after your request.
